BRINGING YOUR A-GAME
- GATE academy

Helping your child excel in their education is a timeless goal for many parents. Whether it's through providing educational resources, fostering a love for learning, or actively engaging with their schoolwork, parents play a crucial role in shaping their child's educational journey.
The following are some tips to get you through acing all your educational goals for this year:

- Establish Clear Goals: How do 30 minutes with your pen and journal sound? That’s all it takes to be able to give yourself a high five by the end of the year. Take some time to identify precise and attainable academic goals this year. Your not too long list should include; Short-term goals, study techniques, study timetable and accountability partners. Easy!
Let me give you a simple example;
Step1- Short-term goal : I want to get an A grade in Mathematics
Step 2- Study techniques: I need a Mathematics tutor to explain complex topics to me
Step 3- Study Timetable: I will dedicate 1 hour, 3 times a week after school to studying and practicing questions.
Step 4- Accountability Partners- Ensure my family, friends, and teachers are aware of my goals and plans, to help me stay on track and provide adequate support.

- Encourage open dialogue: Communicating with kids is very key to academic success. When having conversations, we can often tell when something isn’t right. Instead of generic questions such as ‘how was your day?’ or ‘how was school?’ asking more direct questions just might help in receiving a more tailored answer. Here are some better questions to ask to keep the conversation going: ‘What new thing did you learn in Math class today?’ ‘Do you like your new math teacher?’ ‘What did you do during recess?’ ‘Are there any new changes around the school you don’t like?’. Questions like these will definitely have follow up questions that will act as a conversation starter on which the conversation can take off. Remember, the key is to be open and ensure that the conversation helps you understand how your child's day truly went, giving you insight into their progress, difficulties with academics, and all you might need to know about the learning environment.

- Embrace Technology: It's unbelievable sometimes how far technology has come. Who could have thought there would be a time when we would no longer count on our fingers, right? Academic performance can go from 0 to 100 really quickly if technology is utilized the right way. There are educational platforms that can help achieve academic goals, our tutors at GATE Academy do a fine job at utilizing most of these platforms to yield satisfactory results. You have nothing to worry about. Just remember to set rules guiding the use of technology as one can easily get carried away. Besides, too much screen time is not good for your child's health.

- Rest- Creating time for healthy habits and making it a lifestyle cannot be overemphasized. Rest is an underrated secret to success. Sleeping at the right time, taking a walk, taking out time for a power nap, all of these are key to a healthy life. They can help revitalize your brain and increase your productivity.
If you have made it this far, then you should know that you have officially agreed to make this your priority and use this as your new technique in achieving your goals. Remember, little drops make a mighty ocean, taking small short steps daily will definitely make a difference at the end of the year. Don't forget to give yourself a high five along the way. You are doing great!
